A Checklist for Beginner Coaches

Looking to get involved in coaching?

Mosman Netball is a community based netball club and runs on the help, love and support of mums and dads to coach their daughter's team.

Don't be scared, the majority of our parent coaches have never played netball or haven't played for a long, long time. For this reason, Mosman Netball provides a very comprehensive training program and support for parents! We will hold your hand throughout the entire season and ensure you have the tools and tips you need to do an awesome job.

Coaching your daughters' team is a very rewarding job! Your child will remember it forever and it also gives you fantastic opportunity to network and meet other parents.

What is involved in being a Parent Coach?

  • Commitment, love and support of your daughter
  • Desire to learn and be part of our coaches community.
  • Participate in our Junior Coaching Support Programme.
  • 1 hr training + 20mins planning then match time - you will be there watching your child play anyway.

Your fellow team parents will be willing to support and help you also. This is truly a team experience!

In addition, the Club will reimburse coaches for the cost of attending relevant external coaching courses run by NSNA should mums or dads chose to formalise their coaching qualifications.

Are you a senior player interested in coaching?

There are a number of paid coaching positions available to senior players. We will give you the same support as a parent volunteer. Please contact the Coaching Convenor or Junior Club Administrator if you would like to have more information.

Working with Children Obligations

As we are a community-based club dealing with children we must meet our Government working with children obligations. The Working with Children policy for NSW can be found here.

It is done online and followed by presenting your ID at an RTA office.

More info on external coaching courses

Northern Suburbs Netball Association (NSNA) runs a coaching course early in the season for new coaches and a more formal qualification course for those more serious in their coaching practice. Some are free to affiliated clubs and others have a charge. Mosman Netball Club encourages its coaches to attend courses appropriate to the level they are coaching and will reimburse any fees incurred by Foundation Courses

The Foundations Course is a Netball NSW Course and coaches must complete an online course Beginning Coaching General Principles as a prerequisite.  Note that the foundation's course is probably more appropriate for those coaching older teams e.g. 12 and above but the online course is beneficial for all coaches.

The Club will advise coaches by email closer prior to registration for the courses.

More information about the courses is available on the Netball NSW website (Pathways for Coaches) and the NSNA website.

See Junior Coaching Support for more information about the program.
